WebNIR (pronounced “ner”) is a new IR (internal representation) for the Mesa shader compiler that will sit between the old IR (GLSL IR) and back-end compilers. The primary purpose of NIR is to be more efficient for doing optimizations and generate better code for the back-ends. We have a lot of optimizations in implemented GLSL IR right now.
